Moon Gazers
A full lunar eclipse
and a King Tide
coinciding,
colliding
in the night
of May 15.
Beach empty,
but for a couple
strolling hand-in-hand
at the water's edge,
a family with
flashlights
chasing ghost crabs,
and a dog barking
at the moon.
Spread out on the sand
with a blanket,
picnic supper
and bottles of water,
we gazed up at the moon,
full and pink,
then white,
then dark.
The moon climbed higher
and higher
in the sky
full of stars.
The ocean waves
crashed in
and rushed back
below.
Moonlight on my
daughter's face.
Sand
crusting our
toes.
A chilly breeze
just before midnight
chases
us home.
